This project transformed an existing 1980s home into a lighter, more functional family home, with a new alfresco extension, cathedral ceiling and a much stronger connection between the internal living areas and the outdoors.

The kitchen became a major focus of the renovation, with integrated appliances, stone benchtops and a concealed butler’s pantry helping create a cleaner, more practical space for everyday use. The broader interior palette was kept light and restrained, using natural finishes and simple detailing throughout.

The renovation was recognised at the 2022 HIA Hunter Region Awards, including Renovation up to $300,000, with the kitchen also receiving Best Kitchen in the $35,000–$45,000 category.

The finished home is a good example of how an older house can be completely reworked without losing what was already there, creating a home that feels more open, more usable and much better suited to the way the family lives now.
